Super 8s Competition

Super 8s Competition

(UPDATE 6 February 2010 - for Team Lists + Fixtures see below)

It was some 60 years ago, and the Interstate Vigoro Tests were back and running after WWII. Tasmania had joined the All Australian Titles and NSW was a force to contend with in the competition.

In honour and remembrance of some of our great players from that era, we've dedicated each of our Super 8s team in the name of a NSW champion from that time. NSW has had a large number of super players over the years and these four players will mark the first to be recognised.

Competition Information

The new Super 8s competition has been designed for those players looking to play the game at the most challenging level. It will NOT replace the current competition format, but rather compliment it with an additional competition level. Players will be able to both participate in the new Super 8s and play with their current club team.

It is expected that the Super 8s format will appeal in the main to all State level players, however there is no minimal skill level required for players registering for this competition.

FEATURES OF THE SUPER 8S

Competitions will run for 6 or 9 weeks. There will be multiple Super 8s competitions run during the season. Players will need to sign up for each competition separately.

There will be 4 teams in the competition, each of 8 players. Players will be 'drawn out of a hat' and allocated to one of the 4 teams. This process will be repeated for each Super 8s draw.

Should a player wish to introduce a new player to vigoro via this competition, then the player new recruit may play in the same Super 8s team for the first competition.

Rules will be modified slightly to encourage multiple bowlers and weekly batting order changes.

A reserve list will be created from players who may not be available each week but would like to play on an ad-hoc basis.

WHEN WILL GAMES BE PLAYED?

At this stage it is proposed that Super 8s games will be played at the 12 noon Saturday timeslot, however this is subject to change pending player interest. First Super 8s competition is scheduled to commence Saturday 19th September 2009.

COST TO PLAY

There is no additional cost to play if you are also playing in the Opens competition. Simply pay your normal season registration.

For players just wishing to participate in the Super 8s, registration fees are $25 player insurance (one-off fee for the season) game fees $30 (6-game competition) or $45 (9-game competition). Given the shorter competition length, Player insurance is due on Game 1 and game fees are due by Game 3.

THE PARRAMATTA COMPETITION CHANGES

All teams will be moved into one open grade. To keep the competition even, the stronger players will be given a handicap. This will be determined on a team by team basis and agreed by a grading committee. This will impact mostly on previous A grade teams. All teams should nominate one person to participate on the grading committee.

PLACES WILL BE LIMITED - REGISTER YOUR EXPRESSION OF INTEREST NOW TO PLAY IN THE SUPER 8S AT: nswvigoro@bigpond.com. Players will be notified of the team selection night closer to the date so that they may attend.
